A 69-year-old Pembrokeshire man was one of two people who drowned in a canal in Gloucestershire.
The body of Terence David Humphreys, of Pleasant Valley, Stepaside was pulled from the Gloucester-Sharpness canal on January 11.
The body of Nicholas Cyril Barry, aged 53, of Cynghordy, Llandovery was on the bank nearby.
The two men, who both had narrowboats on the canal, had been drinking in a nearby pub in Slimbridge the previous afternoon and evening, an inquest which opened into their deaths heard this week.
Mr Barry and Mr Humphreys had both drunk up to nine pints of beer each, before heading back to their narrowboats in the dark with three dogs. The animals were nearby Mr Barry's body when it was discovered.
Gloucestershire coroner's officer Terry Onions told the inquest that post mortem examinations found both died from drowning. Blood specimens have been sent for scientific analysis.
The inquest has been adjourned until July 20.
