A Celtic longboat racing spectacular looks set to make an oar-some sight off the south Pembrokeshire coast on Sunday (June 15).

Wiseman’s Bridge Rowing Club is hosting its first Welsh Sea Rowing League event, which is expected to attract around 30 craft from over a dozen Welsh clubs.

With a course set in Saundersfoot bay, with Monkstone Point as a backdrop, spectators will be able to see all the action from land.

The races will start and finish at the village’s Coppet Hall beach, where the new restaurant Coast has sponsored the day.

Racing begins at 11am, and will feature races for ladies, men and novices and juniors, before the high-energy excitement of the mixed race.

Local businesses have sponsored the bespoke glass trophies made by Saundersfoot Glass Gallery.

Wiseman’s Bridge Rowing Club, which recently successfully completed the gruelling Celtic Challenge from Ireland to Wales, is able to run the event safely thanks to the help of Saundersfoot Sailing Club, whose assistance includes providing safety boats and extra manpower on the day.

The club is now being supported by Saundersfoot Harbour Commission, which has enabled them to establish a permanent boat in the harbour to enable safe launching throughout the year in bad weather.
