Pembroke Dock is gearing up for one of the biggest military parades the town has ever seen.
Tomorrow, Saturday, July 19, the Band of the Welsh Guards will lead the bicentenary parade, stepping-off from Pembroke Dock Community School at 11am, through the town to the Royal Dockyard Chapel.
The Fanfarenzug Stadt Band – which is on a twinning visit from Bergen, Germany - Pembroke Borough Silver band and Haverfordwest ATC Band will also take part.
About 100 standards from across Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire and between 700 and 800 people, including Army, Air Force, Royal Marine and sea cadets are expected.
Pembrokeshire district parade marshal David Boswell will be one of three on parade.
Bicentenary coordinator Martin Cavaney said: “This is one of the biggest military parades the town has ever seen and it reinforces Pembroke Dock’s unique connections with the Armed Forces.”
Pembroke Dock mayor and Bicentenary Group chairman Cllr Pam George added: “We hope everybody in the town will turn out to support this Saturday’s parade.
“It has been well talked about and it looks set to be a great day. All we need now is some good weather.”
On Sunday (July 20) at 1pm the Fanfarenzug Stadt Band and members of the Schutencorp (Shooting Club Members) from Bergen will be parading down Pembroke Main Street into Pembroke Castle.
A salute will be taken at the Town Hall by Pembroke mayor Cllr Aaron Carey and the Burgermeister (mayor of Bergen) Rainer Prokop. The band will then perform a 30 minute musical presentation.
