A quad bike rider from Pembrokeshire has died tragically in a motorcross event.

He has been named as 19 year-old Daniel Roch from Narberth.

The incident happened at around midday yesterday (Sunday) while Daniel was taking part in a race in the Bwlchllan area, near Lampeter.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said that the Wales Air Ambulance attended the scene, but it was found that the rider had sustained fatal injuries.

He added: “Police attended the location and enquiries are currently ongoing in order to establish the full circumstances and the cause of the fatal incident.

“The Ceredigion County Council Health and Safety Executive has also been notified of the incident.

“No other persons were injured during the same incident, and the family of the deceased are being supported by Police Family Liaison Officers.

“The Coroner has been informed, and the matter is now being investigated as a sudden death enquiry.

UPDATE: 2.25pm: Dyfed-Powys Police have issued another statement: “On Monday 21st July 2014, the Senior Coroner for Ceredigion, Mr PL Brunton, opened an Inquest touching the death of Daniel John Roch aged 19yrs, from Narberth, Pembrokeshire. 

"Mr Roch died whilst competing in a motocross event nr Bwlchllan, Lampeter on Sunday 20th July 2014.

"Evidence of identification was taken and the Inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.”
