A talk on the archaeological finds which have been discovered within Cardigan Castle will be given by Nigel Page, the project’s lead archaeologist, today, Saturday, July 26 at 2pm at the Guildhall, Cardigan.

Over the last two years during the construction, the archaeology team has been constantly on site, ensuring that all historical finds are recorded.

Discoveries have included medieval stone structures which would have been part of the original stone Castle; a medieval archway buried in the floor of Castle Green House and two vintage cars - a 1920s Armstrong Siddelley and a Morris car.

Numerous artefacts have also been found ranging from medieval pottery and iron arrow heads, to objects from the era of Castle Green House including clay pipes, an old gas meter, perfume bottles, and a cigarette picture card.

In the summer of 2012, volunteers were invited to take part in the archaeological excavations and around 100 volunteers took part in the community dig, making a number of fascinating discoveries.

Now that most of the major works on site have finished, Nigel Page will discuss the interesting finds uncovered over the last few years, with a slide show to accompany the talk.

The cost of the talk is £5 (free to members). Please book a place by contacting gwenllian.evans@cardigancastle.com. Following the talk there will be tea and cake served and a chance to ask questions.
