Tenby showed off its floral charms to judges in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom contest when they visited the resort this morning (Thursday).
After three years of winning the Silver Gilt in the prestigious competition, the town is hoping that 2014 will be the year it strikes Gold in the category for coastal towns.
Tenby is one of 71 locations selected for the final, which is in the 50th anniversary year of Britain in Bloom.
RHS judges Martyn Hird and Rae Beckwith were shown around Tenby by the mayor, Councillor Sue Lane, who is also chairman of Tenby in Bloom. They were joined by Glenville Codd of Pembrokeshire County Council, whose gardening team creates and maintains the resort's key floral displays.
They went on a tour of local projects to assess them against three key criteria - horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.
Said Councillor Lane: “We really value the input of the Britain in Bloom judges and their advice on how we can further improve our town’s status as one of the top 20 most beautiful small towns in the world.
“I would like to thank the Town Beautification Team, all our sponsors and the many other volunteers who do so much throughout the year to help make Tenby the beautiful place it is.”
The results will be announced at the awards ceremony in Bristol on October 16.
