Police have said that reports circulating online about an 'attempted child abduction' in Haverfordwest on Monday evening are not correct.

On Monday the 'Spotted: Haverfordwest' Facebook page wrote: "Attempted abduction... It is believed a man tried to snatch a 10 yr old boy from the park down the courts. People please make kids aware of stranger danger."

The report had received 129 shares and dozens of comments.

But when the Western Telegraph spoke to Dyfed-Powys Police today, officers confirmed that no crimes had been committed.

It is understood that a man tried to help a young boy who had fallen over.

A police spokesman said: "We received a report at approximately 18:48 of an incident in the North Court area of Haverfordwest.

"A child had been approached by an elderly man and had then run home.

"The elderly man was traced, but also a witness, who clarified that the boy had fallen over and the elderly man tried to assist him.

"There were no offences."
