A teenage swimmer was pulled out of the water by his friends and airlifted to hospital, after getting into trouble off Penycwm beach yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
The teenage holiday maker got into difficulty after being taken out of his depth whilst swimming with friends. His friends helped hold his head above water and pulled him to shore. However he had swallowed a lot of water and his friends phoned 999 for help.
Coastguards received the call shortly before 3.20pm and tasked Newgale’s RNLI lifeguards to the neighbouring beach.
RNLI lifeguards Scott Candler and Ellie Meopham rushed over to Penycwm with their first aid bag and found the teenage boy conscious but very pale and unwell.
The lifeguards administered CPR until paramedics and the local coastguard team arrived. An RAF rescue helicopter was also called as the tide was quickly coming in. The teenager was airlifted to Withybush hospital for further treatment.
