A group encouraging us all to buy local products and produce is in Haverfordwest today to promote its message.

Buying local is one of the keystones of thebestof Pembrokeshire and it is the focus of its latest campaign.

“We believe that the needs of consumers, producers and our environment are inter-dependent, and that community enterprise can be used to improve the links between all, businesses, charities, schools and councils and this naturally leads to a better quality of living for all,” as spokesman said.

The organisation is sharing its love of all things  local at a stall at Haverfordwest Farmers Market, which runs until 3pm today.

There is also a Facebook competition for the keen sighted. If you spot a ‘Buy Local’ sticker in a business’s window- take a snap and post it onto thebestof Pembrokeshire’s Facebook page, with a shout out for the business- and you will be entered into our prize draw to win a £25 voucher to spend with a local business.

“No doubt we are spoiled in Pembrokeshire, with our stunning views and beaches, but also with our unique range of artisans, producing high quality products, across the board, from award winning fare to quality craft work. With talent and products this good we cannot go wrong," said a spokesman for the group.

“The difference, however, may not be in the goods but in the service.

“Buying Local really does have a strong economic benefit; also, a recent study found that by buying local produce, every penny spent circulates around the local area three times before leaving. If that is compared to money spent at the major supermarkets, almost every penny leaves the local area as fast as you can spend it."
