PUPPY love has won over the hearts of staff at the Port of Milford Haven, who have named Greenacres Animal Rescue Centre as its charity of the year.

Charity of the year status means Greenacres will receive financial assistance, in-kind support such as help with fundraising activities, volunteering and donations.

Welcoming the news, centre manager Mikey Lawlor said: “It was fantastic to find out that Greenacres was the chosen charity for the Port of Milford Haven, we have seen the tremendous support they have given PATCH and are looking forward to working with them in 2015.

"Greenacres is steadily growing and the support will mean we’ll be able to help more animals and develop educational initiatives about responsible pet ownership.”

This is the second year that the Port has asked its employees to suggest who they would like to receive support for the next 12 months.

Last year PATCH (Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship) was named the Port’s Charity of the Year and benefited from a wide range of initiatives including the relocation of offices, training for their volunteers and donations from staff.

Port spokesman Anna Malloy said: “We are looking forward to supporting Greenacres Animal Rescue throughout 2015 and hope to help put in place projects that will benefit them for many years to come.

"We are particularly excited to be assisting them with the educational aspects of pet ownership.

"Our staff have voted for their charity and I’m sure they will all get behind Greenacres over the coming months.”
