ACTOR Jerome Flynn was among the hundreds of concerned locals demonstrating outside County Hall in Haverfordwest this morning, ahead of an extraordinary meeting to discuss the future of secondary education in Pembrokeshire.

Councillors are voting on plans to radically change how secondary education is delivered across the county.

But proposals to close Ysgol Dewi Sant School and merge it with Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard have drawn fierce oppostion from parents, families and friends of the school.

"Ysgol Dewi Sant is a very special school," said Mr Flynn, who has been starring in TV's Ripper Street and Game of Thrones.

"It's the cathedral city of Wales and the thought that St Davids could lose its school is preposterous.

"It's important to keep that youthful energy and culture.

"If it loses that it will just be another place for people to retire to."

Cara Riches, 16, has just entered sixth form at YDS, and fears the closure of the school could "wreck" the local community by discouraging young families from staying in the area.
