Pembrokeshire College will find out today (Friday) whether it has won two Times Educational Supplement (TES) Further Education awards due to its work in the Pembrokeshire community.

The college is in with a chance of winning the accolade of Outstanding Contribution to a Subject or Vocational Area, for its work at Bowlings Riding School alongside the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA).

It is also in with a chance of scooping the prize for Contribution to the Local Community.

This is in thanks to its Make a Difference Day activities.

Make a Difference Day benefitted 23 local charities and voluntary organisations in 2014.

For over two decades, the Bowlings Riding School has specialised in providing a safe environment for riders aged from four to over 70 who have a variety of mental and physical disabilities.

The centre is headed up by Mike Butcher, the UKs lead show jumping coach for RDA.

Mike is passionate about the benefits riding can bring to people with mental and physical disabilities.

He was instrumental in the introduction of show jumping as a new discipline at RDA, and is now working with the Federation for Equestrian International (FEI) and British Show Jumping in an attempt to get it accepted as a paralympic sport.

In 2012 the college launched Make a Difference Day (MaDD) in an attempt to make a positive difference to the communities it serves.

In the three years since its launch, over 80 organisations and an estimated 5,000 local people have benefitted from the scheme.

In total over 100 colleges and training providers submitted entries for one or more of the 12 TES Award categories, and the College has been shortlisted for the third year running.

The winners will be revealed at a glittering ceremony in London, on February 27.
