A St David’s Day call has gone out to patriotic posers to snap a ‘selfie’ in Saundersfoot in a new competition.

Dragons, Welsh ladies and rugby players are all being encouraged to take a shot at the contest which is part of the village’s Food and Craft Festival this weekend.

The prize of Sunday lunch at the St Brides Spa Hotel will be awarded to the person who takes the best ‘selfie’.

Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism is organising the annual festival and chairman Phil Odley said: “We hope there will be lots of Welsh-themed costume around the village to celebrate St David’s Day. We’re sure there will be plenty of ‘selfies’ taken during the event, so we’d love people to post them to their Facebook or Twitter, with the tag #saundersfootselfie, and then we‘ll judge the best one.

“It’s an extra bit of fun for the festival, which is going to be a great weekend in the village.”

The Saundersfoot St David’s Food and Craft Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, February 28 and March 1.

It features stalls, entertainment, cookery demonstrations and workshops in the Regency Hall, the Dragon Trail around the village and the Cawl Cooking Championships of the World….and elsewhere.

The Saturday lunchtime cawl trail features six local eating establishments, who will all be serving the Welsh delicacy. Taking part for the first year is Coast at Coppet Hall, and they are joined by The Old Chemist Inn, the Hean, the Mermaid on the Strand, Phillys and the Royal Oak.

The contest – recently featured on Jamie’s Friday Night Feast on Channel 4 – is judged by the public, and last year, the 350 commemorative cawl bowls sold out in record time.
