A tourism Oscar is taking pride of place at Pembrokeshire’s Folly Farm.

The adventure park and zoo - which last year added lions to its attractions and will soon be home to black rhinos - has just been named Best Day Out in Wales 2015.

The award was presented at the National Tourism Awards for Wales and is the third time that Folly Farm has claimed the title.

Said managing director Chris Ebsworth: “There is no better measure of our success than receiving this recognition from our industry peers.”

He said that the accolade was accepted ‘on behalf of our loyal visitors and dedicated staff’ and added: “We are proud of the small part we play in the wonderful tourism offering that is Wales.”

A number of other Pembrokeshire businesses also had cause to celebrate at the event.

Clydey Cottages in Boncath was named as Best Place to Stay in the self-catering category, while The Grove, near Narberth, took gold for Tourism Skills Development.

Jacqui Davies from Clydey Cottages said that the prestigious award was "testament to the hard work and dedication that we and our whole team put in, to ensure our guests receive the very best in service and accommodation that Wales has to offer.”

There were two silver Best Place to Eat awards for county establishments - Coast in Saundersfoot in the large restaurant category, and the Griffin Inn, Dale in the pub class.

Tenby’s Long Course Weekend, a three-day festival of sport, picked up bronze for Best Large Event in Wales.

The awards are run by Visit Wales and the ceremony took place at The Vale Resort in Hensol last Wednesday.

Said deputy minister for culture, sport and tourism, Ken Skates: “The National Tourism Awards are the Oscars of the tourism industry and pay tribute to those who are committed and passionate about their businesses, tourism and Wales.

“The quality of what we have to offer here in Wales goes from strength to strength, and the awards are an opportunity for us all to celebrate the industry and to showcase the outstanding quality of our vibrant tourism sector.”
