POLICE officers have welcomed a strong sentence imposed on a driver filmed 'drifting' his car at a county roundabout.

Ben Griffiths, 21, of Belfry Close, Milford Haven, was handed a 12 week suspended prison sentence and banned from driving for a year by magistrates in Haverfordwest on Wednesday.

Griffiths admitted dangerous driving.

He was tracked down after video of him drifting his BMW around a roundabout on the Cardigan Road was posted on social media.

Dyfed-Powys Police Inspector Gary Jones said “This sentence should send a warning to all drivers who drive anti-socially that they can end up in court even if they are not stopped by an officer at the time of the offence.

“Anti-social driving can range from careless driving to dangerous driving. Driving anti-socially is a crime and can adversely affect local residents. Police will take action whenever possible.

“All road users have a duty to use the roads safely and not cause danger to other road users.

"Luckily on this occasion no one was injured but all too often we see serious injuries and deaths resulting from careless and dangerous driving.

“I would like to thank the member of the public who reported the incident which subsequently led to charge, prosecution and sentencing of a dangerous driver”.
