Former Western Telegraph reporter, Cllr Chris Taylor, has been appointed mayor of St Davids for the second time.

Cllr Taylor, who worked at the Western Telegraph in the 1980s and then later at the County Echo, is the owner of St Davids Bookshop and has been on the city council for 12 years. He last served as mayor in 2011.

Cllr Taylor said that the next year would prove an interesting time for the city, with the re-organisation of education, the progression of a community-led housing project in the heart of St Davids and the opening of the new lifeboat station at St Justinians.

"We plan to keep the flag aloft and keep the council going and represent this community as well as we can," said Cllr Taylor.

"It is a privilege to be chosen as mayor and I am grateful to the council for electing me. I will do my best to serve the community to the best of my ability."

Cllr Taylor has been involved with the council and the community for many years, and was key in getting city status for St Davids during his time as council clerk.

He is actively involved with the Lesotho Committee which strengthens links between St Davids and the remote African kingdom.

He said that this would probably be his last year in public office.

"I don't think the older generation should stand in the way of the younger generation," he said. "After this year I plan to give more time to my bookshop which has been sorely neglected."

Cllr Bethan Price, who has been on the council for 18 years, was appointed as deputy mayor. The mayor's chaplain will be Cannon Dorian Davies.

The civic service at St David's Cathedral will be on June 19.
