THE hunt is on for a queen with a difference who will lead the Beastly Procession at the head of Narberth Carnival on July 30.

This evening (Thursday), between 7.30pm and 8.30pm at Narberth Rugby Club. A panel of judges will be presiding over The Trials of Rhiannon, inspired by the mythical queen from the epic Welsh legend, The Mabinogion .

The Trials are open to everyone, and the successful applicant will be chosen not for their beauty, but for their skills, ability and Rhiannon-like qualities of strength, creativity, passion and determination.

“All are welcome to come and watch The Trials, but there’s no guaranteeing that you won’t get roped in!” warned its organisers, The Span Arts Cheerful Project.

Mabinogion-inspired workshops leading up to the carnival are being organised by Span Arts, and include a mask- making workshop on July 9, drop-in sessions on July 17, 25 and 26 to create a Mabinogion creature to join the procession.

There will also be sessions with local groups to make giant procession puppets.

To get involved, phone Span Arts on 01834 869323 and speak to someone from the Cheerful Project team. Workshop booking on span-arts.org.uk
