Small in size but big in history Jordanston Church, five miles out of Fishguard, is celebrating its connection to David Lloyd George and a host of other local families at an exhibition this weekend.

St. Cwrda’s Church dates back to the 13th century and boasts an association with a wealth of historical characters.

To mark one hundred years since David Lloyd George was appointed Prime Minister, the church is staging an exhibition to highlight his life, work and local connections.

His family came from north Pembrokeshire and many relatives still live in the area today. His grandfather, David George farmed at the neighbouring farm of Trecoed and together with countless other family members, is buried in Jordanston.

The church is also indebted to Lord and Lady Hamilton who in the 1800s restored the church and re-built the tower. They also gifted the communion silverware to the church, which is still in use today.

Other families prominent in the church’s history are the Vaughans, the Mathias family and more recently the Philipses.

The Lloyd George and Other Families exhibition on June 17, 18 and 19 will showcase all these individuals, and more. There are exhibits in the church, with further displays and refreshments in Jordanston Hall.

The free event runs from 10.30am to 8pm each day.
