LOCAL MP Stephen Crabb has said he must focus on his family, following his resignation from the government.

Mr Crabb said he was offered a job by new Prime Minister Theresa May during her reshuffle on Thursday but had to turn it down following allegations about his private life.

The former Work and Pensions Secretary said today (Monday): "It has been a huge privilege to be in the Cabinet for the past two years.

"I enjoyed very much my time as Secretary of State for Wales and, in recent months, getting stuck into the new role at the Department of Work and Pensions.

"It was an honour to be asked to come to Downing Street last Thursday to be offered a job in the new government.

"However, I realised walking in there that I have a bigger priority right now which is to focus on my family.

"I look forward to supporting the government from the backbenches and throwing my full weight into constituency duties in Pembrokeshire.”

Mr Crabb, a married father of two, had been the subject of national newspaper allegations that he had been sending sexually suggestive messages to a woman.

The Daily Telegraph reported yesterday that during her meeting with Mr Crabb at Downing Street, Mrs May had asked if further allegations were likely to emerge.
