SEAFARERS around the world were remembered at a recent special service at RNLI Angle Lifeboat Station on Sea Sunday.

It is a time when the Mission to Seafarers spotlights all those who work at sea and who have served their countries during war and through peacetime.

Angle RNLI’s service on July 10 was led by the Rev Geoffrey Howell, Team Vicar for the Monkton Rectorial Benefice.

The service was held alongside the lifeboat slipway, with the station’s Tamar class all weather lifeboat Mark Mason awaiting her next call-out.

Those attending were welcomed by the station’s Lifeboat Operations Manager Julian Hammond and the address was given by Rev Howell, who also led the prayers. The reading was by Sandra Thompson, of the Pembroke Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild.

Particularly poignant during the service was the singing of the seafarers’ hymn ‘Eternal Father, Strong to Save’

The collection, made by one of the station’s volunteer crew members, Anna Foulstone, was in aid of Angle RNLI.

Afterwards, refreshments were served in the crew room by Lorna Rees and Sally Denman.

Earlier in the day, Sea Sunday was also celebrated at Angle’s small 15th Century Seamen’s Chapel of St Anthony in the grounds of St Mary’s Church. The service was led by the Rev Geoffrey Howell and donations were in aid of the Mission to Seafarers.
