Shedloads of drawings have gone on display in Fishguard and Goodwick, the result of an award-winning community art project which has drawn together hundreds of people from the twin towns and surrounding community.

Since October, Coast Lines drawing project has involved more than 800 local residents and visitors, who have captured a variety of locations throughout the twin towns in communal sketchbooks.

Fishguard artist Lizzy Stonhold, has persuaded firemen, rugby players, school children, and local businesses to pick up a pencil and draw, in order to encourage all to observe the beauty of the surrounding environment.

"The project was inspired by the sublime view from Dinas Mountain where you can see Fishguard and Goodwick from an elevated position," said Lizzy.

"I wanted the project to record how beautiful community life is in Fishguard and Goodwick as well as how beautiful and unique the landscape is."

Lizzy involved hundreds of local people getting them to sketch parts of the community and landscape they knew the best.

She explained that a drawing of the rugby pitch produced by one of the players would be a more valid representation than she could produce, as the players know every part of the pitch.

The project won the prestigious Big Draw Founders Award; an international accolade celebrating community projects that help share the importance of drawing.

Now the drawings in their entirety are on display throughout the twin towns until September 10.

A total of 2,468 drawings were gathered at 79 workshops participated in by locals and visitors alike. They are on display in three drawing sheds situated on Goodwick Parrog, Fishguard's Golden Mile and Lowertown Quay.

In St Mary's Church, Fishguard, the ten metre Bigger Picture takes visitors from Dinas Mountain through the twin towns to Strumble Head.

More than 100 drawings for this visual sentence were reproduced from the original workshops and communal sketchbooks, taking several volunteers eight days to draw.

In Fishguard Town Hall there is an exhibition of all the sketchbooks and a photography display.

The exhibition is free and runs from August 25 until September 10. For more information see www.coastlines.cymru.
