NEARLY eight months on a young mother from Bosherston is hoping that her leaky roof will finally be fixed.

Jai Lewis, 25, and her two daughters, Sasha, 7, and Lilly, 2, were driven out of their council house by damp issues after around 30 tiles were blown from the roof in February’s storms.

Despite paying full rent for her property Pembrokeshire County Council arrived just this week to prepare to carry out repair work following a number of delays.

“I phoned up every day for months asking can I have a time and date and every time they were fobbing me off, I was trying to get an inspector out but there was a six month wait,” said Jai.

“I had to move me and two children into one small room.

The inspector said it should have been done as an emergency, so I thought lovely job, it will be done now but they said there was a two month wait for scaffolding.

“They came out as soon as I put it on social media and put tiny amount of scaffolding up. Then said there were birds nesting in the hole so can’t touch it by law,” she added.

The family were forced to move in with Jai’s mother, paying “keep” as well as rent, with Jai having to sell her car to manage.

The damp also caused health problems, particular for little Lilly, who suffered badly with asthma as well as damaging the family’s belongings.

A Pembrokeshire County Council spokesman said: “The matter is in hand and work is due to commence next week.”

Jai was hopeful that the work would go ahead, adding: “It took eight months to get the scaffolding up so you never know!”
