A fundraising day for a Goodwick girl battling breast cancer for the second time will take place next Sunday, October 23.

Ria McGauley (nee John) was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in August this year. She had previously fought metastatic breast cancer in 2011 while pregnant with her second child.

The 36- year-old is currently undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments in a bid to keep the disease at bay, but it has now spread to her liver and lungs.

Ria has recently moved away from Goodwick but still has plenty of good friends and family in the area. A group of these have teamed up to organise Ria's Fun Day in order to raise money to support Ria and her family.

"We want to raise as much money as we possibly can for the family to use as they wish," said her cousin Tanya Fenn.

"Her husband Tony was self-employed and is her primary carer now, so there is no money coming into the household.

"They could use the money to have a holiday, as an opportunity to make memories, and to make sure they have food in the cupboards and a roof over their heads. To take away some of the financial worry

"People have been amazing with offers of help. I think she has been overwhelmed by the support shown."

The day will include two fun runs / walks (5km and 10km) which are fancy dress optional. The 5km course is pushchair/ wheelchair friendly and everyone is welcome. Sponsor forms are available from Sanz surf shop and the Glendower Hotel. Runners are also welcome to make a donation on the day. The run starts at 2pm with registration open from 12pm.

The event at Fishguard Rugby Club, will also feature a fabulous raffle, an auction, live music and refreshments.

A growing number of local businesses have donated generous items to be raffled including restaurant and spa vouchers, international rugby match tickets, a shirt signed by the Cardiff Blues team, signed snooker cue.

A Ria's Fund bank account has also been set up at HSBC, Fishguard, to accept donations.
