TWO people have been arrested in connection with the death of three swans at Withybush Woods, Haverfordwest.

One cygnet and two adult swans were shot dead by what is believed to be an airgun.

A second cygnet was later recovered by the RSCPA and placed in the care of Maria Evans from bird rescue centre Tinker’s Hill.

Dyfed-Powys Police has said it has now arrested two males in connection with the incident.

Insp Tim Davies said: “This was a distressing incident, and we are aware of the impact in the local community.

"We are thoroughly investigating this serious wildlife crime.

"If anyone sees an injured swan we would advise that they contact the RSPCA.

"Do not approach as swans can attack and you could injure yourself or further distress/injure the bird.

"I am also appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, or anyone with any information that could help the investigation to contact us by calling 101.”

More to follow.
