Strong winds and driving rain has led to a series of incidents across Pembrokeshire and much of west Wales this afternoon.

Pembrokeshire County Council staff along with Dyfed-Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue officers have been working hard in difficult conditions.

As of 4.30pm the rainfall radar showed the worst of the weather tracking to the north-east of Pembrokeshire.

Flood alerts have been issued for both the Western and Eastern Cleddau and for North and West Pembrokeshire.

Gauges show 40mm of rain has fallen in Maenclochog in the past six hours. Rain should start to ease from 7pm but heavy showers still likely through the night.

Flooding has occurred on roads in the following locations:

  • A40 at Treffgarne Bends and Wolfscastle
  • Maenclochog to New Moat
  • Herbrandston to St Ishmaels
  • Penny Bridge, Pembroke
  • A478 at Folly Farm, near Templeton.

Earlier reports stated flooding and incidents at:

  • A40 High Street, Fishguard, near Pendre Garage
  • St Nicholas, near Fishguard
  • Ffordd y Cwm, St Dogmaels,
  • on the Little Newcastle – Letterston road
  • Hawkstone Road near Pembroke Dock railway station
  • Llanteg to Amroth road
  • Glandy Cross and Mynachlogddu
  • between Sealyham and the A40
  • A478 St Davids to Fishguard road near the petrol station at Square and Compass
  • Picton Close, Hakin, Milford Haven
  • Munro Court in Pembroke Dock.

Other incidents at:

• A478 surface water giving difficult conditions near the Nantyffin Motel. Llandissilio

• conditions on B4329 Haverfordwest to Cardigan road very difficult due to run-off of rain water from fields

• large tree down between Middle Mill and Whitchurch

• culvert flooded at St Dogmaels

• Flooding on minor road at Wolfsdale near Letterston; Pleasant Valley Road at Narberth and at Brickyard at Wisemans Bridge.

And in Cardigan the town's High Street was closed for a period due to falling tiles.

A yellow Met Office warning for rain is in place until 11.55pm.
