Book lovers in Fishguard are welcoming the news that the town's library will be open six days a week from this April.

Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council has agreed to fund the library opening on a Friday for an initial period of 12 months.

The facility has been closed on Fridays since 2015 when county council cuts resulted in a reduced hours in libraries across the county.

Following negotiations between the two authorities, the town council's agreed last week to cover the cost of a Friday service.

"This is a really positive step forwards and the town council is proud to be of assistance to the community and of its relationship with the county council," said Mayor of Fishguard and Goodwick, Cllr Mike Mayberry.

"Fishguard library can now claim to be the only library in the county that is open six days a week throughout the year."

Cllr Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, added:

"Fishguard Library is a very well-used resource and I'm sure the return to full opening hours will prove popular with the local community. The library also houses the magnificent Last Invasion Tapestry and there is no doubt that this investment will also be a boost to tourism in the local area."

From April 1st, Fishguard Library will be open from 10am until 5pm on Monday Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It will be open from 10am until 6pm on Thursdays and from 10 am until 4pm on Saturdays until October, when it will be open between 10am and 1pm.
