A 5km charity sea swim is splashing out in Pembrokeshire in June.

The first-ever TenFoot swim – which starts in Tenby and finishes in Saundersfoot is a challenging event which will be raising money and awareness for two good causes.

They are the Rory Rogers Trust Fund and Bloodwise.

Rory is a young man from Saundersfoot who suffered life-changing injuries in an attack in the village three years ago. He is now a resident in Ty Cwm, the Leonard Cheshire disability home at Johnstown, Carmarthen, and the aim is to raise money for a hydrotherapy pool for the home.

Bloodwise is the UK's only charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

The swim is the brainchild of local fundraiser Chris Williams, one of the organisers of the Saundersfoot New Year's Day Swim, who has brought together a group of individuals with experience in not only organising similar events but also who have taken part in Ironman, triathlon and sea swim events.

"We wanted to organise something that would appeal to people as being exciting, challenging, and also helping to raise awareness and money for two extremely important charities," said one of the TenFoot organisers, Anthony Mattick.

"The nominated charities mean a lot to the group, and we are hoping we can do something that may make a difference."

The swim will set off from Goscar Rock on Tenby's North Beach on Saturday June 3, and will round Monkstone Point before finishing on Saundersfoot beach.

The organisers emphasise that this is not a race, but more of a challenge, and entrants must undertake the appropriate level of training. Interest can be registered online at www.tenfootswim.co.uk
