A PEMBROKE fashion designer and farm manager at the town’s Green Links, showcased her Spring/Summer collection at the recent London Fashion Week.

The luxury fashion label, Clare Johns, owned by Clare Johns of Golden Hill, was established in 2015, fuelled by her passion for style, design and her countryside lifestyle, and using natural materials made from the wool of her own farm animals.

From shearing to sewing, Clare puts her heart into designing and creating luxurious tailored classics, and has been working tirelessly on her new collection Orchid Dream for Spring/Summer 2017.

It encapsulates an eerie atmosphere of dainty yet bold orchids standing wild and alone in a deserted, overgrown field.

Speaking after the Devonshire Square event, Clare, 32, farm manager at Pembroke’s Green Links, said: “It was amazing, absolutely amazing; I felt on top of the world.

“They asked me just before Christmas, I wasn’t sure as it’s a lot of money; there were three shows: New York, London and Paris, they did ask me to do all three. I said I could just start with the London one.

“Devonshire Square was a really big venue, which really suited my look.

“You need to market yourself, which I’m really new to, it’s not my field.

“Because the looks were quite different mine was more ‘wearable’; everybody was loving the colour scheme, I’d been out walking and found these orchids; it just grew from there.

“I’d done some new tweed using Ryland sheep; I don’t dye my wool, I just use different wools to create the different colours.

“It was a country look with a modern twist.”

Clare took the opportunity to promote her label by visiting one of the world’s most famous department stores.

“I did go to Harrods, I thought: ‘Why not?’. They were lovely, so nice, they loved the ‘look book’ and said they would pass it on to the buyers.

“It’s hard to know where it’s going to go, it’s just early days; I was just working my socks off and it came ‘round really quickly.

“It’s getting stuff seen, which is the hardest part, especially coming from Pembrokeshire, it’s not like it’s a couple of hours down the road, it’s a long way.”
