The temporary governing body of a new school to serve the Hakin and Hubberston communities in Milford Haven has appointed a headteacher.

Nick Dyer - executive headteacher of the two schools currently serving the area – will be the first headteacher of Gelliswick Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled Primary School which is currently under construction.

Mr Dyer was appointed following local and national advertising for the position and making a presentation to, and being interviewed by, the temporary governing body’s appointments committee.

He said: “I am delighted to be appointed and I look forward to working with the pupils, staff, parents and governors to continue to build a successful future for the children, based on values that are important to the community.

“It is a great privilege to be in the business of creating learning and offering hope to children.”

The chairman of the temporary governing body, Milford Haven Town Councillor Yvonne Southwell, said: “I am delighted that Mr Dyer has been appointed as the first headteacher.

“He has proved to be an excellent head during the period of the two years of the schools’ amalgamation and has maintained the qualities of both schools.

“Mr Dyer brings with him the support and respect of the pupils, parents, staff and the temporary governing body. His proven leadership will enable him to continue and flourish within the new school.”
