A DRONE camera is helping police fight crime from above, thanks to a new partnership with the fire service.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) is allowing Dyfed-Powys Police use of their unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) drone to assist with aerial policing.

Police Sergeant Chris Neve said: “We have used the drone on a number of occasions to assist in searches for vulnerable missing people, as part of road traffic collision investigations, river rescues and more."

Following budget cuts in recent years, he said it was important for emergency services to "work together and work smarter" in order to best serve the public.

Sergeant Neve said this latest support was in addition to that provided by the National Police Air Service (NPAS), by allowing Dyfed-Powys Police to use its specialist drone when required.

MAWWFRS station manager Sean Lloyd said - since October 2015 - the drones had been used at a range of incidents, including house and wildfires, chemical incidents, and in the search for missing persons.

Mr Lloyd said this was another example of how the fire service was working with police to share resources and intelligence during emergency situations.
