WHERE there’s pain there’s gain; that’s the painful prospect for Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre volunteer John Mitchell who has undergone a fundraising body waxing today, Saturday, May 13 as part of a fun day running at the centre until 4pm.

This coincides with a special milestone for John - his 70th birthday - and he will be raising funds for the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, which runs the Heritage Centre.

John bared the flesh and took on the pain at the Heritage Centre, with the waxing beginning around 10.30am this morning.

He has already raised a good amount for the charity and welcomes further sponsorship to ease the waxing pain.

This is part of a fun day of events at the heritage centre, including children’s arts and crafts, a bric-a-brac stall, and there will also be home-made cakes on sale.

The centre, in the Royal Dockyard Chapel, is open between 10 am and 4 pm.

For visitors there is an opportunity to try out the newly-launched replica Sunderland cockpit, and, for younger age groups, a chance to learn more about the famous Sunderland by tackling the new 14 foot wingspan interactive model.
