THREE Talented Pembrokeshire College learners have proved once again that they are among the best young trainees in Wales when they brought back medals from this year’s Skills Competition Wales Advanced Welding final.

At the final, held at Neath Port Talbot College in April, MITEC Level 3 student of Welding, Joshua Nash, from Haverfordwest, came second; Alyx Jones, from Cardigan, fourth; and Liam Ellis, from Pembroke, placed fifth.

Their accolades rank them in the top five in Wales.

Josh, sponsored by Rhyal Engineering, said that he felt nervous but enjoyed the experience: “This is only the second time I have taken part in a competition, I felt the pressure but it was worth it!”

College Lecturer, Jo Bradshaw congratulated the boys on their triumph, “Josh, Alyx and Liam have only been welding for 18 months so this is an amazing achievement, we’re incredibly proud!”

The competition called for five test pieces, including MMA, TIG and MAG in various positions. Competition judges from the Welding Institute and TUV Nord said that the Pembrokeshire College group produced extremely high quality welds with the standard of the competition being the highest it has been for several years.
