IT'S 'curtain up' on Monday for a special stage show to mark the 40th anniversary of Saundersfoot Footlights.

After the success of last year's home-grown Footlights musical, Lifetime!, the lively society is once again on cue with an original production.

Pingleford Players Proudly Present!, written and directed by Footlights' Allison Butler, is based around an amateur dramatic society as they try to decide which show to stage next.

The action goes between the Players committee meeting and scenes from West End and Broadway shows, with everything from dazzling production numbers to haunting ballads.

The audience quickly meets a host of quirky characters - some of whom may well be familiar to those who have ever sat on a committee....

Studious chairman Trevor (Steve Butler) is kept in check by his long-suffering wife, committee secretary Margery (Marianne Osborne). There's the new, and very theatrical, director Judith Wimmington-Cummings (Andrea Thomas); snooty vice-president Sylvia (Lynne Gammage), clueless treasurer Hugh (Marten Lewis), set designer Brian (Christopher Tilbury), over-enthusiastic lighting technician Neil (Jordan Dicken), yoga-loving Meryl )Jocelyn Aveyard) and wardrobe mistress Pam (Heidi Griffiths).

Not to be forgotten is society stalwart and tea lady Mavis (Allison Butler), whose advancing years mean her glory days in the spotlight are now just memories in a scrapbook.

A talented and well-drilled chorus provide show songs galore and their routines have been choreographed by Maggie Patterson of Pineapple Performing Arts School, who is a friend of the society.

The costumes, sets and lighting all bear the Footlights first class stamp, and musical director Clive Raymond leads the live orchestra.

So will the committee ever reach a decision? To find out, go along to the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot from Monday May 29 to Saturday June 3.

Tickets are available from the Regency Hall and Elements in Saundersfoot, Dale's in Tenby, Musician's World in Haverfordwest or online at www.saundersfootamdram.co.uk with no booking fee.
