A teenager was hospitalised after debris fell from cliffs at a local beauty spot over the weekend.

The 19-year-old is believed to have been struck by a sharp piece of rock while sunbathing on the beach at Druidstone Haven on Sunday.

After being given first aid at the scene, the man was taken to Withybush Hospital, where he received six stitches to a deep cut on his leg.

He was given medical treatment by a quick thinking family who were enjoying the sunshine nearby.

“I heard a commotion across the beach and it became clear that someone had been injured,” said Glenn Hewer.

“My partner, Hari, and I are both trained in First Aid, so rushed over and could see that the boy had sustained a very deep gash to his leg.”

Glenn, 34 , an ex-marine, whose military training included emergency medical assistance, said the man was in shock.

“The laceration was really very deep and there was blood all over the boy’s hands,” said Glenn, who is Sales and Marketing Manager at Bluestone National Park Resort.

“His mum was trying to clean him up with a towel, but that wasn’t clean and was covered in sand.”

In true commando-style Glenn tore up his own T-shirt to use as a ligature, while his partner Hari compressed the wound.

“The bleeding was pretty bad. We called for medical assistance and were told that a nurse would be with us within 20 minutes. We decided that we shouldn’t wait, so we  carried the man up a rocky path to the car so he could get to hospital.”

Glenn is now urging other beachgoers to be careful at the popular spot.

“Druidstone Haven is a really lovely place to enjoy the fabulous weather – we go there often, but when it’s hot, the cliffs are drier and there’s a chance of falling rocks. It would be devastating if a stone like that were to hit someone again, it could potentially be fatal.”

“We’re just so glad the man was safe,” added Hari. “It made for quite an eventful afternoon.”
