A mobile hairdresser and make-up artist could lose her business after admitting drug driving.

Judith Marie Barnett, 36, of Kiln Park Road, Narberth, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving while over the controlled drug limit when she appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday.

The court heard that officers could smell cannabis when they stopped her Peugeot after spotting a minor traffic offence at Dredgeman Hill, Haverfordwest, at 6.45pm on May 5.

She told officers she had eaten a cannabis cake at a party and was later found to have the breakdown products of cocaine and cannabis in her system.

Jonathan Webb, defending, told the court that Barnett would be unable to continue her mobile hairdresser and make-up artist business, which had been of local and national repute, without the use of her car.

He said: “The sentencing ramifications are going to be far reaching.”

Mr Webb added that Barnett would not have been under the influence of cocaine while driving, and had been sofa-surfing since the offence.

He said: “She has now lost her employment and is homeless as well.”

“This has been a wake-up call for her. She was in a fairly bad place in her life, but that has changed for the better.

Magistrates banned her from driving for 12 months and fined her £120. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

The chairman of the bench said: “You obviously realise what a major and grave error you made.”
