A 35-foot yacht which drifted onto rocks at Tenby after parting its moorings in the bay was successfully recovered in a joint operation between Tenby RNLI and local boatmen on Friday.

Both Tenby's lifeboats were tasked at 8.20am after Milford Haven Coastguard received a report from a member of the public that the yacht was drifting towards First Point.

The inshore lifeboat arrived on scene within 10 minutes to find that the yacht was now on the rocks. The all-weather lifeboat, which was about to launch, was then stood down.

The crew of the inshore lifeboat were concerned that someone may be aboard the yacht, so the helmsman decided to veer through the swell and put a crew member aboard to check.

Once it was found that nobody was aboard, the inshore lifeboat returned to station. It returned later in the day as the tide came back in around the yacht, and provided safety cover while local boatmen attempted to re-float the vessel.

The operation was a success and the yacht was placed on an outside mooring until the tide was high enough for entry into the harbour, where a survey of its hull was carried out once the tide went out again.
