TWO firefighters in St Davids will head to the Welsh capital in October to help raise funds for a heart-warming appeal.

David Jones and Luke Phillips, both 35, serve at the St Davids Fire and rescue Station, and on October 1st will be joined by childhood friends Rob Howells, Gareth Chalmers and Tim Guy to run the Cardiff Half Marathon.

And the quintet will do so with a good cause in mind, with all money raised going to Cilgerran Children’s Ward at Gwangwili Hospital, in honour of young Tilly Morgan from Trefin.

Tilly, now four, was diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2016. Thankfully, she has since been declared in remission, but her and her parents, Chris and Amy Morgan, continue to face frequent trips to both Cardiff and Gwangwili for her ongoing treatment.

“Originally this was just a chance for a group of old friends to get together,” said David.

“However we decided to do a little more than that and give something back to the community and a good cause.”

David then successfully sought the permission of Chris and Amy to raise funds for the Cilgerran Ward, where the majority of children with serious illness in the counties of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigionshire and Carmarthenshire will go to when they require special care.

“Tilly has had many spells at the hospital and received great support from the Cilgerran Ward,” added David.

“And throughout her treatment she has battled through with a beautiful smile on her face. She truly is a champion.

“One thing I will promise is that no matter how many aches, pains and strains we feel, and no matter how many blisters we suffer along the way, we will do this race with a smile on our faces, with Tilly as the inspiration.

“Any donation people make, will be greatly appreciated  no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated by the five of us, Cilgerran Ward and the Morgan Family - Chris, Amy, Tilly and her brother Archie.”
