AN ARTS exhibition aimed at bringing new colour to the streets of Haverfordwest will draw to an end this week with a party and an auction of paintings.

This year’s Breakout exhibition has seen 25 artists create paintings which have hung on buildings around the town between July 15 and September 3, and has celebrated a final week with an exhibit at the Spring Gardens house of the project’s organiser, Arthur Brooker.

The Breakout Closing Party and Exhibition will take place tonight (Friday, September 15) where party-goers will have the chance to bid for the paintings which have graced Haverfordwest this summer.

The party will also feature a bar, and live music from Raul Speek, The Remedies, and Matt Baker between 6pm and 10pm.

Most of the 25 artists who have been involved in the Breaking out of the Gallery project live in Pembrokeshire, with others coming from Carmarthenshire and Swansea.

“We have got a lot of really talented artists here in Pembrokeshire, and not enough people are supporting them or tapping into it,” said Arthur.

All the money raised for the event will be put towards bringing back the Breakout for next year, it’s third summer season in a row.

Arthur has plans to expand the project. He wants to be able to include more artists and invite them to make sculptures and installations as well as paintings.

Arthur was inspired to start the Breaking out of the Gallery project after returning to Haverfordwest two years ago from working for a theatre company in Denmark.

“I had this energy from being over in Denmark and thought we need some art around the place,” he said.

He decided he wanted to help regeneration efforts in the town by adding a splash of colour to some of the local buildings, and enlisted the help of locally-based artists to do so.
