A WOMAN from Haverfordwest has reached the regional finals of the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Jan Spicer, 74, is a Welsh regional finalist within her age category and is in with a chance of winning the main prize - a £1,000 voucher for Specsavers and £10,000 cash.

She was presented with a certificate, a bottle of champagne and a £150 Specsavers voucher at the Haverfordwest store to mark her progression to the finals.

‘I saw the link on Facebook and that it’s helping raise money for Kidscape,’ she said. ‘I thought it would be fun so I entered my husband as well as he wears spectacles too.”

The competition has five age categories, with Mrs Spicer entered into the Over 60s category. The winner from each will be announced at an award ceremony in London on October 10.

Specsavers’ store director Paul Skoczek said: “Everyone at the Haverfordwest branch wishes Jan the best of luck and hopes she makes it to the finals in London.”

£1 has been donated to Kidscape for each entry made, adding to the £400,000 that the campaign has raised for the anti-bullying charity over the last six years.

The money will help to support Kidscape to provide training, support and advice for those affected by cases of bullying and abuse in the UK.
