AN EXCITING opportunity is available to university students who were educated in Pembrokeshire.

The Port of Milford Haven’s annual scholarship scheme is now open for entries.

It offers four students awards of £1,500, as well as a three-week placement during summer 2018. Having supported more than 60 young people since it was introduced in 2003, the initiative continues to help local students during their studies and boost their future career prospects.

One of the winners of the 2016-17 scheme, Harriet Sleight, has just completed her placement.

She said: “The experience will significantly benefit my future career as it provided me with the opportunity to work in a professional environment and execute a professional project.

"I also feel that the application process will benefit my future career as I had not previously experienced a formal interview and I now feel better prepared.”

Chief executive at the Port, Alec Don, said: “The scholarship scheme is a fantastic opportunity for undergraduate students to gain an insight into the diverse range of activities and developments at the UK’s largest energy port.

"I would encourage all Pembrokeshire students to apply to the scheme for financial help whist at university and to experience working life at the Port of Milford Haven.”

To be eligible, students must be on a degree course at a British university and have completed the majority of their secondary education in Pembrokeshire.

Applications must be completed online by Monday, November 13, at mhpa.co.uk/scholarship-application/
