WITHYBUSH General Hospital has recently purchased a new portable ultrasound unit.
The new piece of equipment was bought with funds from the Pembrokeshire Cardiology Charitable Fund at a cost of £14,718.90.
Dr Gavin Ross, Registrar in General Medicine said: “This machine is already proving invaluable in enabling us to safely undertake various medical procedures, such as inserting chest and abdominal drains and securing access to veins in difficult circumstances.
“Previously we had to borrow machines from other departments which could often lead to delays in patient care.”
The unit will be used by doctors in the medical department which covers A&E, ACDU, HDU/ITU and wards 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 as well as the Medical Day Unit.
It will be used for the safe provision of care for acutely unwell or emergency admission medical patients.
