HAVERHUB has been given a vital funding boost which will help the community group to design a business model and draw up regeneration plans for the Old Post Office.

The new community hub based on Quay Street, Haverfordwest has received £14,980 from Arwain Sir Benfro, the local action group for Pembrokeshire, administered by the community support group PLANED.

Gitti Coats, Haverhub co-ordinator said: “It is a very complicated and ambitious site at the Old Post Office so it needs a lot of support and advice.

“It is very exciting to have been awarded this money and we are already working with an architect who is giving his time for free to work on the layout.”

Ms Coats added the EU-sourced grant was important as it helped with a lot of the necessary background work on the community hub that other funding bodies could not cover.

The “LEADER project” funding has provided money for professional site surveys, drawings and project management as well as to enhance the business plan.

PLANED has helped communities in Pembrokeshire to access over £25m worth of funding over its 30 year existence.

Arwain Sir Benfro is currently inviting submissions of ideas from other community groups.

Kate Lindley projects officer, says: “In 2016 Arwain Sir Benfro projects amounted to £1.2m and there is further funding and support available.”

“If you have an innovative idea that could benefit your community, you may be able to get support from the LEADER programme and we would love to hear from you.”
