PLANS for the heritage centre in Haverfordwest are still on the cards according to a local county councillor, despite public belief that they had died a death.

As part of the approval of the council improvement plan Thomas Tudor stressed to members and to the public that the flagship heritage centre plan was still in works to be completed.

"The flagship heritage centre is very much up and running," he said.

"Assuming the feasibility study is favourable we will start lobbying the major funding bodies such as the heritage lottery for funding."

Cllr Tudor also said he was optimistic about the future of the county town due to the range of new schemes taking place there with the support of the council.

Cllr Paul Miller, cabinet member for the economy said he shared Cllr Tudor's optimism for the future of Haverfordwest.

The centre would be a focal point for historical and heritage activities throughout Pembrokeshire and has previously been described as a place which would tell the ‘rich story of Pembrokeshire through the centuries for the very first time’ and give a ‘strong, cultural focus to the proposed town regenerations scheme for Haverfordwest’.

Councillors voiced local concerns about developments before voting to approve and adopt the improvement plan.
