A PEMBROKE Dock woman confronted a policewoman with a knife after drinking a bottle of vodka, a court has heard.

Police had attended the Old Coronation School flats on Meyrick Street on October 31 on unrelated matters when an intoxicated Victoria Mutu came out of her apartment and began shouting at them to go away.

Swansea Crown Court heard the 23-year-old then went back into her flat, only to return a short while later armed with a kitchen knife.

The female constable told her to put the weapon down, and Mutu responded by putting the knife behind her back.

The court heard the officer again told her to drop the weapon, and reached for her incapacitant spray - Mutu threw the knife to the ground, and was arrested.

Mutu had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place when she appeared in the dock for sentencing on Friday.

Dan Griffiths, for Mutu, said his client had drunk a bottle of vodka on the day in question, and maintained she had no recollection of events.

The advocate said Mutu wanted to apologise to the officer.

Judge Paul Thomas QC said the dangers of knives in public places had been demonstrated with the spate of deaths in London over the New Year period.

He told the defendant: “Make no mistake about it, walking around very drunk and very aggressive with a knife is a serious matter - the dangers are all too obvious.”

The judge said the best way to protect the public was to give Mutu the help and support she needed, and he sentenced her to a 12 month community order with a drug rehabilitation order and 100 hours of unpaid work.
