A NEW café in Tenby with a Welsh-themed signature dish is one of just 16 finalists in the 2018 National Breakfast Awards.

The Fuschia Caffe, located in The Mews off Upper Frog Street, has been chosen from cafes, pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels across the UK.

Laura Shorten, who opened the café less than a year ago in 2017, will now line up in the contest’s live finals at Westminster Kingsway College, London on January 30.

In three rounds, the chefs will prepare their signature breakfast dish; will take on the Ingredient Challenge where they create a dish from ingredients provided by the event sponsors, and the Smoothie Challenge.

Laura will be cooking up her P’Puffin - a fluffy muffin with traditional Welsh rarebit, made with local ales, Penclawdd laver bread, fresh cockles and crispy bacon.

She said: “I can’t believe we got through against some awesome competitors. The nerves are already high - I need to channel my inner Masterchef!”

The evening award ceremony will announce the National Breakfast of the Year, the Breakfast Chef of the Year and Smoothie of the Year.

The presentation will see the overall prize of £1,000 awarded, plus a Vitamix smoothie blender.
