AN application to close Neyland's St Clement's Surgery will be carefully considered before any decision is made.

That's according to Hywel Dda University Health Board.

In a statement, the organisation said: "The Health Board received an application on 17th January 2018 from Argyle Medical Group to close their site at St. Clement’s Surgery in Neyland this spring.

"This followed discussions with the practice regarding their sustainability position and ongoing workforce pressures.

"St. Clement’s Surgery currently provides a variety of general medical services five mornings a week.

"The Health Board would like to work collaboratively with Argyle Medical Group to examine ways of addressing the challenges they face.

"The paramount concern for the Health Board is to ensure the continued delivery of services to patients in the Neyland area.

"Argyle Medical group’s application will be given careful and detailed consideration via a formal process, which will include feedback from patients, the neighbouring practices who could be affected, the Community Health Council, the Local Medical Committee and other stakeholders.

"Until the application has been determined by the Health Board, services will continue to be delivered as normal from St. Clement’s Surgery and patients should continue to access services there."

There has been widespread condemnation of the plan since it was announced on Wednesday evening.

Neyland mayor Cllr Simon Hancock - who is also a member of the Health Board - is organising a meeting to protest the move.

It will take place on Thursday January 25 at Neyland Athletic Club at 7pm.

All patients of St Clement's Surgery and other Neyland and surrounding areas residents are asked to attend.
