A drink-driver collided with a car during a trip to buy more wine, a court has heard.

Rebecca Florence Horton, of Castle Street, Pennar, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when she appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday.

The court heard that police received a report that Horton had driven her VW Golf into another car on Treowen Road, Pembroke, at 7.39pm on February 16.

Horton, 37, told officers she was feeling low due to problems with her ex-husband, and had been sitting at home drinking wine.

She drove to the shop to buy more wine and tobacco, and stopped briefly to allow a friend’s daughter to cross the road before hitting another vehicle.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said: “There was quite a lot of damage to both vehicles. Her vehicle was so badly damaged that she could not move it at first.”

Horton was found to have 63mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

Mike Kelleher, defending, said: “The defendant was in something of an emotional mess.

“She was very depressed, was not sleeping, and things got on top of her.”

“She was at a low ebb and took to having a few glasses of wine. She regrets it very much.”

Mr Kelleher added that the street in question was very narrow, but Horton was unable to say why she had scrapped along the other car.

Horton was disqualified from driving for 20 months, and fined £120. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.
