NARBERTH’S Castle School is appealing for Pembrokeshire people’s help in helping its netballers in a tough ‘David and Goliath’ challenge.

The girls and netball coach at Castle School have joined forces with Haverfordwest’s Tasker Milward School in a bid to win the chance of a day’s coaching with an international netball player at the Dome.

Castle school teacher Su Cowell said: “They are the only school, not just in the county but also the whole of Wales to have achieved this, but are pitched in a David and Goliath battle in that we are a much smaller school than many of our competitors and therefore will struggle to hit the goal (excuse the pun) of getting the most votes.

“We are equal to the rest in that we have achieved what was needed to qualify, but now it is a case of first past the post, and, as a school that is only a fraction the size of the rest, we will struggle to match or surpass their votes.

“The girls themselves have really taken the initiative in trying to win. They have set up dedicated computers in the school to encourage other students to vote and one of our players suggested that, since we have played with and against Taskers in the past, we should club together, improve our voting power and share the prize should we win.

“However, we still fear that pitched against a huge school which is also a netball academy, we are still the underdogs.

“We are therefore appealing to the general public to help us put Pembrokeshire, West Wales and indeed Wales ahead of the rest by voting for us.

“With the March 29 deadline fast approaching we need help fast.

“Miss Algieri made a great case for our inclusion in the competition and the girls are really keen to have the chance to learn from the professionals.”
