A FLOOD alert and two flood warnings have been issued for the Pembrokeshire Coast today (Monday, April 16).

The coast of Wales between Llantwit Major in the south and the Dovey estuary in Ceredigion is currently under a flood alert from Natural Resources Wales.

The entire Pembrokeshire coast is included in this warning, as well as the Milford Haven waterway.

Two flood warnings have also been put in place for the tidal areas at Dale and Newgale.

Residents in Dale should prepare for flooding along the seafront, including the Griffin Inn, community hall, South Street and the B4327 road.

Residents in Newgale should prepare for flooding on the A487 and near to the Duke of Edinburgh pub.

The alerts are set to last for the next few days, and the most likely time flooding is expected is on Tuesday morning.

Natural Resources Wales' website says the flood alert is in place due high tides coinciding with a tidal surge and moderate to large offshore waves.

NRW gives the following advice on their website:

"The greatest impacts are expected during the high tides on Tuesday, April 17, set to occur at approximately 8am and 8.15pm at Milford Haven, local time."

"The tide on Tuesday morning is expected to give the greatest impacts.

"Care should be taken at exposed locations around the coast such as sea front areas, roads adjacent to the sea and promenades.

"Wave overtopping is expected at some locations; this can be dangerous and may contain debris.

"The wind is forecast to be approximately force 7 from a south- south- westerly direction. Offshore waves are expected to be moderate to large."

There was some minor flooding in Pembroke earlier this month due to a high tide, with the Commons closed to all vehicles as the road was covered in water.

A flood alert is the lowest possible warning NRW issues and means that flooding is possible.

NRW also issues flood warnings, meaning that flooding is expected, with need for immediate action.

The highest alert NRW can raise is a severe flood warning, meaning there is a possible danger to life.
