One of Haverfordwest’s best known and established artists, Tony Steele-Morgan will be exhibiting new work in the town this month.
His exhibition at Oriel Emrys Gallery was opened yesterday (Saturday) by another local artist, Theo Whalley.
The artist’s work is included in collections at the National Library of Wales, the National Museum, the Glynn Vivian Gallery, Swansea and all over the country.
He works with acrylic and oil paintings and his detailed and striking images are part of a long process, with each painting taking a significant amount of time to do.
“I can be very flippant sometimes but I am very serious about other things like painting and music. I am very proud of what I do and I try to do the best I can,” said Mr Steele-Morgan.
After pursuing a career as a librarian, Mr Steele-Morgan decided to study visual arts and spent five years at Newport College of Art and the University of Wales, obtaining an honours degree in fine art. In 1976 he won first prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
The mix of new and old work, which features Haverfordwest landscapes as well as portraits, and the ever-present theme of UFOs, which fascinate him, is on show until November 4th.
